On the mend!!

Greetings everybody! I am happy to report that we all seem to be on the mend! It's about time too! It will dip down into the 30's this weekend and it sure would be nice to be over this respiratory junk before it dips down that cold. That's the predicted tempts for the nights though. I was able to finish my exchange pieces and will get them mailed off in a day or two.I'll post pics of those once I hear from the recipients that they arrived safe and sound. I also worked a little on the handquilting for my son's quilt. Hopefully it can take up residence on his bed soon. I thought I would share a basket that I did a little while back.It is a pattern from Pine Mountain. I finished it into a basket that sits in the kitchen that holds my cd's . That's usually where I listen to my music as I spend a good portion of the day in there .

Thank you so much for all of your well wishes for us and my mom, and your other comments. They mean a lot!

'til next time,

Happy Stitching!

A little better but not quite there yet

Greetings all ! Hope today's post finds you all doing well. I'm a little better today but still need to get in gear.Yesterday was spent mostly sleeping. I didn't intend for it to be that way but I just couldn't stay awake. I was up a few different times to get some water ,take medicine, check emails and such .I started dozing off at the computer at one point. I plan on hopefully to get some finishing done on my exchange pieces today. I didn't take a stitch at all yesterday! That hasn't happened to me in eons I don't think. Hubby got some of his done though. He's working on Salem Inn from Plum Pudding Needleart. he is stitching on 28 count cream evenweave. You can't tell much difference in the pic between the black and the WDW molasses , but you can in person. Here is his progress.

I've spoken to you about my dad before and how he comes across such wonderful finds for all of us at garage sales, estate sales, and fleamarkets. He'd be a good shopping buddy for you Edgar. Anyway, he ran across these and brought them to me. I love checker/ chess boards so that one is a future stitch for me. I'm not big on bell pulls but I love samplers and the bell pull in the other magazine has really caught my eye. I don't know if you can see it well .I tried taking a close up of it but the image keep turning when being uploaded so I don't have a good shot of it. These are older magazines and I don't even know if they are still in print. Anyone have any idea?

Here is a shot of one of the flannel quilts that I have made. I made one similar for my dad several years back for Christmas . I titled his 'A Walk in the Woods' because of all the different woodsy fabrics it had. When I made mine ( below) I added some lighter fabrics to make it a little more suitable for a female. I titled it 'A Walk in the Woods II'.It's a lap quilt and my son uses it sometimes when he's cold ,but the way the boy is growing he's gonna need that other one finished pretty quick!

Here is the best close up I could get of the handquilting. Hopefull you can see some of it.I did stippling across the entire quilt. I know this isn't a great picture. Kind of embarrassed for Edgar to see this one as he always has such great pictures on his blog.

Yesterday the house was filled with a wonderful aroma that lasted nearly the whole day. Hubby was making deer jerkey. This plate was full yesterday, this morning this was all that was left. I had a couple of pieces and the guys ate the rest! I just love this set of dishes. They were from Pier 1 .My sister gave them to us as a wedding gift many years ago. Sad to say that I'm lucky if I have a full 4 place setting after the ones that have gotten broken over the years. We started out with an 8 place setting.

That's it for today dear blogging buddies. Thank you all for your wonderful comments .They're so appreciated! Peg- I'll keep your framing fella in mind, thanks.

Some finishes and a cruddy weekend

Greetings all! I'm afraid you find me this morning with a case of the crudds. You guessed it... I have come down with something too! My guys are feeling a lot better though and for that I am very thankful! We almost lost my husband a couple of years ago with a very bad respiratory infection so anytime he gets something related to that we get scared. Guess what I drank all weekend? This nasty stuff below. Dosen't it look yummy? NOT!
I was hoping it would make me feel better but it didn't really. As a last resort before going to the doctor, (which I after my toe incident you know I avoid if at all possible) I tried an onion pultis that my mother told my hubby to make me try. I think this must be one of my grandmother's Cherokee Indian remedies.Anyway I tried it and it helped to get my lungs to open up. Yesterday it felt like something was squeezing the air out of them. I was wheezing pretty bad and my inhalor just wasn't working. If I hadn't tried the onions I probably would have went to the ER. My mother's surgery went really well. She has one of the best plastic surgeons in town. She was up walking around later that day and had went home. She even went on a 6 hour round trip with my dad to pick up my sister. I thought she was pushing it with that one .She knew we'd all think so so she didn't tell us about it until after she came home. It's not that I don't want her helping my sister out, she couldn't be stranded. I just think mom should have taken it more easy is all.I know Doc Hawes would have had a fit. What do ya do?

Well here is No Bees all finished except for the framing. I like the way it turned out.I'm hoping to get a frame ordered from Hobby Lobby soon. They used to have thier frames 50% off every other week, but when I was in there the other day I seen this huge sign that said 'this week only'.I'm wondering if they are going to discontinue the every other week thing or if it was a ploy to get people to buy that week. Wouldn't surprise me if they discontinue it, they seemed to have a lot of other things I used to use. I really sound like a grump today don't I? I must find me something to put me in a better mood lickety split! Hot cocoa and stitching will do the trick!

LHN's Home of a Needleworker (too!) is completed! I will finish it into a pillow in the style of Pine Mountain's Tie One On series.

Watch me pull a rabbit out of my hat! Well... how about a quilt from a WIP stack! LOL! I started this quilt last winter for my son and I really need to get it done so he can use it this winter. It is a pattern called "Winter at the Lodge" using fabrics of the same name from Holly Taylor for Moda. I have thrown in a few other fabrics as well. I am handquilting it . I'm doing in the ditch quilting on the straight edges, stippling in the big blocks, and outlining the moose appliques. I can't machine applique worth a hoot so I hand appliqued them so that they would look like they were done on the machine. Took me hours to do that and I won't do that again. I must get better at machine applique so I don't run into that problem again! The fabric is flannel so Bear (Alex's nickname ) should be warm and cozy this winter.

It looks like it's sewn a little crooked but it's not. It's just the way that it's laying on the floor. It's been put away for awhile so it's a little wrinkled. Okay a lot wrinked! I'll fluff it in the dryer when I'm done and it will be fine.

Thanks everybody for all of your wonderful and sweet comments. If you haven't put your name in the hat for the giveaway yet there is still time. The post to do that on is dated Oct. 2nd.

THE GIVEAWAY!

Greetings all! My first giveaway is here! Now, before I give the details , I wanted to update on a couple of things. My guys have respiratory infections! The poor things! Well after we came home from the doctor and then pharmacy for the meds, this is what we were greeted with! I went to unlock the door and this huge spider repelled itself down on it's webbing and stopped right in front of my face! I hate spiders and I ran off of the porch! My husband and son are trying to figure out what in the world is wrong with me all of a sudden, and then they see it. Even though I detest these things , I ran to get the camera. So , here he is. I kid you not, this spider was about 3 inches long. Biggest spider I had ever seen ,and although I know that there are bigger spiders out there , I don't care to get up close and personal to find out just how big they are!

Well my mom went in for surgery this morning. I have tried calling but still haven't heard anything. I would loved to have been there first hand like I had for her others surgeries and her treatments, but she requested that I stay home and take care of the boys. Considering that they could possibly have something else along with the respiratory infections, I knew she was right. After all , I don't want to spread anything to anyone else ( especially her ) should I be carrying anything. It killed me to stay home though.

Well ,here it is! For the giveaway I stitched part of Blackbird Designs 'Be Kind and True' and made it into a needlebook.I stitched it on 32 count lambswool linen using DMC and some Weeks Dye Works. I used an antique looking sage green moire fabric for the back and inside . For the pages I used a 28 count oatmeal evenweave as I thought that would look nice as this sort of has a natural feel to it. It closes with a mother of pearl button and loop made from DMC. If you are interested in trying to win this needlebook, all you have to do is comment on this post and make sure that you leave your email so I can contact you if you are the winner. If you would like two more chances to win, add yourself as a follower on my blog and post this giveaway on your blog with a link to my blog. If you do not have a blog but would like an extra shot of winning like everyone else that has a blog, you can drop me an email at : genealogrl@yahoo.com . I will take entries up until midnight CST Thursday October 8th and will announce the winner on Friday's post ,October 9th.

Thanks for the nice comments and for the remarks about my guys and my mom. I appreciate it. That's if for today. Good luck everybody!

'Til next time, happy stitching!

It's Beginning to look a lot like Christmas... What?

Greetings all! Happy October! Well , today's title is 'it's beginning to look a lot like Christmas, and it is. In today's post anyway. I'll get to more of that in a minute. If you've read my blog yesterday, then you know that my guys have been sick. Well my hubby Jack had to call in sick yesterday and couldn't get in to the doctor as they were booked. So he is going today and will be off of work through Saturday. Our son is sick as well ,but not as bad as dad. I think he will be feeling better today, fingers crossed! I made this homemade chicken noodle soup for them. I usually make the noodles from scratch too ,but they take a little time and I just couldn't conjour them up yesterday.I added chicken, stock, carrots, celery, fresh garlic, and a few chicken friendly herbs. They liked it and I thought it was tasty too.

Okay, so now on to more about the Christmas part of this post. All of you quilters and stitchers out there in blogland know that you have to get a jump on these things if you expect them to reside in your homes for the season. I stared this quilt top last year and need to add borders and layer it for quilting so we can actually use it this year. The fabrics are Birchwood Lane by Holly Taylor for Moda. Now since I wasn't thinking ahead last year, I didn't purchase the fabric for the borders. One thing I like about the Holly Taylor lines is that a lot of them can mix and match so I should be able to find something that works nicely. The fabric is flannel so it will be nice and cozy .

I discovered a stowaway after I had taken this picture. Can you find him? We have had spiders something fierce lately. Don't know where this one ran off to.

Hopefully you can see a little more detail in the print on the fabrics of this block.

This is another unfinished project from last year. It is one of Lizzie Kate's snippet santas. I can't remember the year.I am going to make it into a pillow. I first thought of making it into a Christmas purse and then thought it would get too dirty out and about. I have made a couple of buttons for it like the ones that the model uses on the chart.I have just the perfect fabric around here for it somewhere.

Well mom's surgery was put off last week because of her medication she was on ,so tomorrow is the big day for her.Everything should go fine. She's a little nervous but can't wait for it to be over.
Hopefully I will have the announcement tomorrow of the giveaway. If not, Saturday for sure! That's it today folk! Have a great rest of the day!
'Til next time, happy stitching!
